Wall Street opens lower as data shows slowing economic growth

U.S. gross domestic product grew at only 0.2 percent annual rate in the quarter as harsh weather dampened consumer spending and energy companies struggling with low prices cut spending. "The mixed economic data has been a concern. At 9:59 a.m. EDT (1359 GMT) the Dow Jones industrial average was down 49.22 points, or 0.27 percent, at 18,060.92, the S&P 500 was down 4.86 points, or 0.23 percent, at 2,109.9 and the Nasdaq Composite was down 10.41 points, or 0.21 percent, at 5,045.01.
