US stocks rising broadly after Intel deal for chip designer

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks rose broadly in afternoon trading Monday following the release of some encouraging economic data and news of a big acquisition in the semiconductor industry. Nine of the 10 industry sectors of the Standard and Poor's 500 index were higher.
