U.S. Ramps Up Threats to Use Force as Venezuela's Crisis Deepens
While U.S. officials have repeatedly said that all options are on the table, Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, top military leaders and National Security Adviser John Bolton all added new urgency to that message on Wednesday as they pressured Russia and Cuba to stop assisting Maduro’s regime.Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan canceled a trip to Europe to focus on Venezuela, and Bolton said the National Security Council will meet at 2 p.m. in Washington to focus on the crisis.
