UPDATE 1-Hercules Offshore files for bankruptcy protection

Aug 13 (Reuters) - Drilling contractor Hercules Offshore Inc
said it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy as demand from
oil and gas producers and explorers drops due to weak prices.
