Dow drops on weak earnings; TSX edges up

The Dow Jones industrial average dropped two per cent in late afternoon trading Tuesday after several U.S. companies handed in disappointing earnings results. The Dow was off 228 points to 17,450 after weak earnings from Caterpillar and Microsoft, which are both components of the 30-stock Dow.
