Chinese Growth Steady Despite Market Problems

Chinese economic growth was at 7% in the second quarter of 2015, its worst performance since the financial crisis. But the level, which is unchanged from the first quarter of the year, beat expectations that the economic slowdown currently gripping the country would depress growth further. Difficulties in the stock market were also expected to have had a negative impact, but a rise in retail sales and factory output seem to have counteracted this.
