China's economy expanded at its slowest rate in seven years during the first quarter, the government said Friday, but forecast-beating readings for March raised hopes a growth slowdown in the Asian giant may be bottoming out. The National Bureau of Statistics figures are the latest to show improvement in China, where exports surged 11.5 percent on-year in March, beating expectations and snapping an eight-month streak of declines.
