Police officers commended for rescuing elderly man from burning home

Two police officers have been commended for bravery after saving an elderly man from his burning home.Police Constables John Cross and Paul Clarke responded to a 999 call just after 10am on 6 August 2014. The line had gone quiet just after the call was made and the officers reached the house in Scott Road, Great Barr within seven minutes.PC Cross tells how the officers’ instincts took over.
