Pensioner dies in Edgbaston house fire

An elderly man has died following a house fire in City Road, Edgbaston this morning (Friday 10 February).
 
Police were called to the premises just after 4.30am where fire colleagues were tackling a blaze in the rear bedroom.
 
Nothing could be done to save the 75-year-old occupant and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
His death is not thought to be suspicious and a post mortem examination will take place in due course.
 
The road remains closed while emergency services
