The Ilkeston Charter Fair is officially underway, as the ceremonial opening was held today, October 20.The fair takes place every October and is one of the oldest and largest street fairs in Europe, now in its 764th year. The Mayor of Erewash, Councillor Abbey Stevenson, 'rang the bell' to open the ceremony where there was also a reading of the original 1252 Charter in front of Ilkeston Town Hall.
