TomNorton published Lorry bursts into flames on the A1

Emergency services were called to a fire on the A1 earlier this afternoon after a lorry caught on fire. The fire broke at the junction near the A46. Drivers were encouraged to avoid the area with only one lane of traffic northbound accessible to motorists. The fire has now been extinguished. Also this afternoon, a crash between a lorry and a car on the A46 between Newark and Farndon closed the road in both directions. It is expected to remain closed for several hours.
