Swarms of flying ants invaded Nottinghamshire leaving people shocked and surprised.Friday was deemed 'flying ant day' - which is the occasion each year when queen ants come out from their nests to begin their nuptial flight.Usually, the queen is accompanied by a male - which is much smaller - and only the fittest and fastest males that can keep up are able to mate.Following the mating, the queen drops to the ground with some males and starts a new colony.The natural phenomenon sees the process..
