Vernon Philander and Steven Mullaney inspired Nottinghamshire to a strong first morning as they reduced Somerset to 101 for five after being put in at Trent Bridge.
Former Somerset man Philander was outstanding as he took three for ten on the back of an inspired first spell of 7-5-6-2 after making the most of overhead cloud and a very green wicket.
