A man accused of bringing the southbound M1 to a standstill for 28 hours cost the wider economy an estimated £1m an hour. The closure, which happened between about 12pm on Sunday and 4pm on Monday, was also thought to have cost emergency services a further £1m. Nicholas Muton, who is accused of causing a public nuisance, appeared in the dock at Leicester Magistrates' Court today for a 10-minute hearing.
