Social anxiety worse now more than ever?

There has been a significant increase of social anxiety especially between teenagers, why is that? Parents normally blame the cause to be the constant use of technology and inability to go out and make friends the way they made back in their teenage years but it is now the 21st century where technology is now at its highest it could ever be with the world around us constantly evolving.
