After selling out at the Almeida Theatre, Rebecca Frecknall’s take on Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire transferred to the West End and was performed at the Phoenix Theatre. Frecknall created a raw and eerie production with clear relevance to Williams’ classic play, and faithfulness to his preference for expressionism over realism. Her minimalist approach to the stage set allowed no distraction from the truly bewitching acting.
