Dr Jekyll's incomplete tragedy - Praneeth Lakshman, Tiffin School
The ‘Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ can be said to be reminiscent of many tropes and genres: Decadence, Gothic and Detective genres are all such examples. However, I argue that there is a more intrinsic and subtle technique used in the tale that underpins the generation of sympathy for the main character Dr Jekyll: the concept of a tragic hero.
