LOOKING BACK: Row, row, row your boat

Barrow Bridge lake on a Bank Holiday in 1945. During the summer weekends hundreds of locals would spend their time at Barrow Bridge, and a house amongst the row of cottages with their gardens sloping down to the water's edge would cater for visitors by providing food and drink. Visitors could also hire a rowing boat for the family or as an alternative you could always have a ride round the lake on the "big boat"
