Traffic stopped on M55 due to cows on the road

A motorway has shut after cows were spotted on one of the carriageways. North West Highways were warning drivers that the M55 was closed in both directions between Junction 1 (Preston) and Junction 3 (Kirkham). North West Traffic Officers and local farmers are working to return them to a nearby field. Drivers were being asked to approach with care.
