Confident ‘everywoman’ strides onto Trafalgar Square’s Fourth Plinth
A confident young woman in a vivid blue dress has strode onto Trafalgar Square’s Fourth Plinth as the latest temporary artwork to occupy the spot.The nine-foot-tall painted bronze sculpture depicts a Black woman stepping purposefully forward in platform shoes, her head held high and her dress caught in motion. Rather than commemorating a monarch, military commander or another famous figure, she represents an ordinary young woman making her way through the modern city.
