A once-in-a-lifetime bloom is coming to Kew Gardens

Kew Gardens is advising people to stand by for a rare flowering of a giant Agave montana as it prepares its one bloom in its life.

The A. montana, which is native to the mountainous habitats of northeastern Mexico and sits in Kew’s Rock Garden next to Davies Alpine House, has produced an asparagus-like stalk (called a peduncle) growing at a rate of 10cm a day and is now measuring more than 2 m
