A group of independent experts met Thursday to discuss whether the FDA should authorize Pfizer's COVID-19 shot.
After hours of discussion, the group voted 17-4 in favor of green-lighting the shot. One member abstained.
The FDA still has the ultimate authority to make the regulatory decision on its own. The agency typically follows expert panels' advice, but it isn't required to do so.
