German rail freight faces EUR 112 million increase in track access charges
News from Europe - Rail freight operators in Germany could pay around EUR 112 million more for access to the network next year after DB InfraGO proposed a 12.6 increase in the standard freight track access charge for 2027, from EUR 3.48 to EUR 3.92 per train-kilometre. The proposal comes at a time when rail is increasingly being called upon as an alternative to inland waterway transport affected by low water levels on the Rhine.
