Yahoo closes Messenger to focus on tools 'that better fit consumer needs'

Yahoo is well and truly wrapping up its fringe products as its integration into new brand Oath gains pace. Now the company has shuttered Yahoo Messenger.
By 17 July, the company will close the service. Instead it is redirecting users to a beta app called Yahoo Squirrel, a group comms app.
