Durham Miner’s Gala: ‘UNISON is strong and ready for a fight’

Last weekend, UNISON northern region joined the annual Durham Miner’s Gala, one of the world’s biggest celebrations of trade union power and working class culture.
Over 200,000 people attended the event, which has been held annually in Durham since 1871. The gala is the biggest event in the trade union calendar. This year was met with celebration after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
