Weather events cost Japanese insurers $1.37bn

The big three Japanese carriers have reported 169bn yen
($1.37bn) of losses related to recent domestic natural
catastrophes, which made a significant dent in their second quarter
results.
Japan took a battering from heavy storm activity over the
summer, including Typhoon Goni and Tropical Storm Etau, which led
to severe flooding and landslides.
