US reinsurers' top line shrinks as expenses widen: RAA

Data compiled by the Reinsurance Association of America (RAA) has
shown that its members' gross written premiums shrank by 5.3
percent during the third quarter, taking the total to $50.5bn.
The survey, which takes responses from 18 US P&C reinsurers,
also found that net written premiums fell 21 percent to
$30.1bn.
The combined ratio worsened by 0.5 points as the expense ratio
increased by 5.1 percentage points, more than offsetting a marked
improvement in the loss ratio from 71.4 percent...
