Total insured losses hit $34bn in 2014: Swiss Re

Insured losses from natural catastrophes and man-made events
fell significantly in 2014, according to research from Swiss
Re's Sigma research unit.
The quantum of insured losses for this year fell 24 percent to
$34bn, compared to $45bn last year.
The report, released today (17 December), also revealed that the
total economic impact of major loss events fell from $135bn in 2013
to $113bn this year.
Natural catastrophes accounted for $106bn of total economic
losses and $29bn of insured losses.
