Fairfax clears Allied World 'go-shop' hurdle

Specialty carrier Allied World came up empty in efforts to find
an alternative suitor to Fairfax during a 30-day go shop period
under its agreement to be purchased by the acquisitive Canadian
group for $4.85bn in stock and cash.
Allied World sought interest from 31 "potentially
interested parties" but found no takers, the Swiss-based
insurer said late Wednesday. The "go-shop" period ended
early Wednesday.
