Berkshire units receive cease and desist orders

The California Department of Insurance has issued a cease and
desist order to two Berkshire Hathaway companies for selling
illegal workers' compensation policies.
California Insurance Company (CIC) and Applied Underwriters
Captive Risk Assurance Company, Inc (AUCRA) received the orders
after Commissioner Dave Jones found the firms were using a complex
insurance scheme to avoid regulatory review of rates and policy
terms in a way that was disadvantaging small and medium-sized
businesses.
