Zac Goldsmith resigns as MP over Heathrow runway decision

Tory backbencher Zac Goldsmith has resigned as an MP in protest at the Heathrow runway decision, which he called "catastrophic". Mr Goldsmith is a well-known environmentalist whose wealthy southwest London constituency is under the Heathrow flight path. The Government's decision to back Heathrow over Gatwick - which promised a cheaper and quicker project - has also drawn scorn from members of the Cabinet.
