Viking Hoard Found By Man With Metal Detector

A hoard of Viking jewellery and Saxon coins has been found in a field in Oxfordshire by a man with a metal detector. The Watlington hoard has been declared "nationally significant" because of the light it sheds on a period of Saxon history. Among the items found by James Mather in Watlington in October were Viking arm rings, silver ingots and coins from the Midland Saxon kingdom of Mercia.
