Synthetic drugs linked to 58 prison deaths

Designer drugs have been linked to the deaths of at least 58 prisoners in England and Wales, it has emerged. Revealing the statistics, Prisons and Probation Ombudsman Nigel Newcomen warned that new psychoactive substances (NPS) have become a "game changer" in the deterioration of safety in jails. NPS have been identified as a major factor in an upsurge of violence and self-harm behind bars in England and Wales.
