Suicides, self-harm and assaults soar in UK prisons

Prisons are seeing record levels of deaths, suicides, self-harming and assault, official figures show. Ministry of Justice figures reveal self-harm incidents soared by almost 7,000, a 23% increase to 37,784, while 25,049 assaults were recorded in the 12 months to September - a rise of 31% compared to the previous year.
