Southern Railway Strike Action Called Off

Strike action by Southern Railway workers on Thursday and Friday has been called off to allow for fresh negotiations. Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) walked out on Monday in a bitter row over the role of conductors and were due to continue the strike action until the weekend. Conciliation service Acas said the strike had been suspended on Wednesday after the RMT offered to suspend industrial action if Southern agreed to return to negotiations without any preconditions.
