Snow Falls At Start Of Cold Winter Weekend

Snow hit parts of the UK overnight, heralding the start of a weekend in which temperatures are set to plunge to -5C. Scotland and high ground in England and Wales saw snowfalls, although forecasters said the risk of further snow was expected to lessen during Saturday. The weekend will see the UK with temperatures that are below average for this time of year - southern parts struggling to reach 6C and parts of Scotland barely managing to rise above freezing.
