Scientist Applies To Alter Human Embryos

A UK scientist could be given permission to alter the DNA of human embryos, using gene editing technology. Dr Kathy Niakan has asked the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) to allow her to turn genes on and off in day-old embryos, to discover which genes control their development. The HFEA will make its decision on Thursday.
