Person Missing After 'Severe' Fire In Gift Shop

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said it was understood there may be someone on the upper floors of the building. Assistant Chief Fire Officer John Baines said: "The structural safety of the building will need to be assessed before we can enter the building to begin our investigations in conjunction with Northumbria Police and partners. Northumbria Police said no one had been reported missing, but there is concern locally for a person who might have been caught up in the fire.
