One-Third Experienced Poverty In Four Years

The poverty rate was calculated based on the number of people who earned less than 60% of the national average after tax - £9,956 or £20,907 for a family of two adults and two children. Between 2011 and 2014, almost a third or 32.5% of the UK population experienced this, the ONS said. The figures show that the UK poverty rate in 2014 alone was 16.8% of the population - the 12th highest over 27 European Union countries.
