New Year's Day Parade Draws Large Crowds

Hundreds of thousands of people have turned out to watch the annual New Year's Day parade in central London, which was the subject of a large security operation. It kicked off in Piccadilly and snaked its way to Parliament Square, taking in Lower Regent Street, Pall Mall, Trafalgar Square and Whitehall along the way. A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police confirmed only that "proportionate policing" had been in place for the parade.
