National Grid Issues Call For Extra Power

National Grid has asked electricity plants to ramp up supplies at short notice to keep the lights on without eating into reserves. The network issued a notice to the power industry under a measure it is using for the first time since 2012, blaming “multiple plant break downs” for the shortage. National Grid said: “This is part of our standard toolkit for balancing supply and demand and is not an indication there is an immediate risk of disruption to supply or blackouts.
