Man United Confirm Van Gaal's Departure

Louis van Gaal has been sacked as manager of Manchester United, clearing the way for Jose Mourinho to be appointed in his place. In a statement, executive vice chairman Ed Woodward thanked van Gaal for his "excellent work in the past two years, culminating in winning a record-equalling 12th FA Cup for the club". Van Gaal spent the day at United's Carrington training ground little more than 36 hours after watching his side win the FA Cup at Wembley on Saturday.
