Man Found Dead In Burning Tent Had Been Beaten

Daniel Smith, who had been sleeping rough on the streets of Manchester for a number of years, may have been alive when his tent was set alight. Mr Smith, from the Ashton-under-Lyne area, near Manchester, was found at around 1.20am on Wednesday in Irwell Street in Ordsall, Salford. Chief Superintendent Mary Doyle, from Greater Manchester Police, said: "This is a tragic situation and we are working with other agencies to assist the local community.
