Jobless Rate Falls To 5.4% As Pay Growth Eases

The jobless rate has hit its lowest level since mid-2008 but growth in pay awards is showing signs of slowing. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said unemployment fell by 79,000 to 1.77 million in the three months to August. The figures are welcome for the Government as unemployment rose over the two previous periods.
