HMRC Seizes 620m Black Market Cigarettes

More than 600 million illicit cigarettes with a tax value of £200m were seized by the government in six months. Another 137 metric tonnes of hand-rolling tobacco that would have robbed taxpayers of £30m were confiscated between April and September last year. HMRC said the black market in cigarettes had been halved - while the trade in illicit tobacco had been reduced by a third.
