Forth Road Bridge To Stay Shut Until New Year

The Forth Road Bridge is to stay closed until the new year for "essential" safety reasons after the discovery of a crack in its steelwork. Transport Scotland said the decision was based on inspections by engineers and the "advice and assessment" of independent experts. Traffic Scotland said Friday morning queues on the A985 had reached 11 miles on the approach to the Kincardine Bridge.
