Flood warnings as storms replace hot spell

The hot weather enjoyed by the south of England is set to end on Thursday night, with a cold front from the Atlantic bringing torrential rain and thunder. After three consecutive days with temperatures around 30C - something not seen since 1929 - large parts of the south, including London, could experience flooding. Jonathan Day, flood risk manager at the Environment Agency, said: "In the early hours of Friday morning showers will become widespread and torrential.
