Files Show Zola Budd Fast-Track Citizenship Row Split Government
A campaign to fast-track British citizenship for South African runner Zola Budd triggered a major Government rift, previously unseen files reveal. In an attempt to get around the boycott, the Daily Mail encouraged Budd's father to urge her to apply for British citizenship, by virtue of her paternal grandfather being British, so she could compete in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
