Ellie Butler: A Child Failed By The System

The murder of six-year-old Ellie Butler at the hands of her violent father took place less than a year after she was returned into the custody of her parents. It also followed a protracted legal battle over Ellie's future, which ended when a senior judge ruled that her parents had been "wronged by the system". Ellie's ordeal began in February 2007 when her mother Jennie Gray took her to visit a GP with burns to her head and hands.
