Two Great North Run competitors die after collapsing during half-marathon

63,000 runners took part in the Newcastle to South Shields run (Picture: Getty)Two young men taking part in the Great North Run have died after collapsing during the half-marathon.Both were aged 25 and from the North East of England and died despite the ‘very best efforts’ of paramedics.Work is ongoing to ascertain their cause of death.
The Great Run Company said: ‘Everyone involved in organising the Great North Run extends their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends
